    FAIREST LORD JESUS seems to have first made its appearance in 1677, but it is hard to be certain of the origin of this wonderful Christian hymn. The melody of Fairest Lord Jesus may derive from a German folk song; & it may have been composed by Jesuits in Germany in the early 1600's. It seems it may have been sung by followers of John Hus, who was driven from Bohemia in 1620 at time of anti-reformation fervor. Yet another account has German Crusaders singing "Fairest Lord Jesus" as they made their pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the 12 century.
