about

Mendelssohn's Wedding March (Recessional) is undoubtedly the most famous wedding recessional song of the last 40-50 years; it actually became popular in 1858 after being employed as the wedding recessional for Victoria, The Princess Royal, and Prince Frederick William Of Prussia. Composed in 1842, Mendelssohn wrote a number of incidental pieces for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream"; his Wedding March in C is the most famous.

We also carry an upbeat, contemporary version here:

Other classical composers such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi have composed a greater body of work that can be heard on a wedding day, but this is perhaps the second most familiar wedding composition, "Here Comes The Bride" being the most famous.

lyrics

Mendelssohn Wedding March (Recessional) was performed by Steve Millikan on the Motif Sunday Pipe Orgaqn.
