PACHELBEL'S CANON IN D is quite popular not only as a wedding processional, but also as a lullaby and for other occasions; some music theorists believe Pachelbel employed one of the most relaxing chord progressions possible in his most well known composition, the Canon in D. Debbie Sewell, composer and music creator from Texas, used an extended version of the Canon in D in her "Quiet Nights" project, to enhance relaxation for sleep at the end of a comforting album of hope and rest. about

Pachelbel's Canon in D Major is one of the most popular wedding songs of the 20th century, second or third only to perhaps the traditional wedding march (Here Comes The Bride) and the immediately recognizable wedding exit music of Mendelssohn.

Though the reason for it's composition is unknown, it may have been written for the wedding ceremony of Johann Sebastian Bach's brother, at which Pachelbel and other friends and family provided the music. That's one wedding I would love to revisit, just to hear the musical choices and performances, and especially to hear the choices of wedding processionals and recessional songs. A canon is a particular type of musical composition - check it out on wikipedia if you're curious!
