This Is My Father's World with Bb Minor Scherzo Chopin

    THIS IS MY FATHER'S WORLD (with Chopin's Bb minor Scherzo) is a hymn from the early 20th century. The music may have been derived from an English melody the author heard his mother singing when he was a young child. The original poem from which the hymn is derived contained 16 stanzas of 4 lines each, written by Maltbie D. Babcock of Syracuse, New York, a Presbyterian pastor and scholar. It speaks of the wonder of creation which causes us to return praise to Him and give him all credit for the marvels of life around us. One of the lines in "This Is My Father's World" contains the phrase "the music of the spheres", referencing the belief by some that the planets and/or stars in some way create music that resounds to the praise of the Creator.

about

THIS IS MY FATHER'S WORLD is a hymn in 4/4 time; the meter has been changed to a 12/8 feel in this arrangement to allow it to be combined with Chopin's Bb minor Scherzo which is woven throughout in the piano part.

This Is My Father's World LYRICS

This is my Father's world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
his hand the wonders wrought.

2. This is my Father's world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their maker's praise.
This is my Father's world:
he shines in all that's fair;
in the rustling grass I hear him pass;
he speaks to me everywhere.

3. This is my Father's world.
O let me ne'er forget
that though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father's world:
why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!
