AVE MARIA VIOLIN (Schubert) is our heartfelt violin solo of this beautiful classic, full version; cello joins on second verse. Schubert composed the music heard here for an excerpt of a Walter Scott poem from "The Lady Of The Lake." An unknown person had the idea to fit the lyrics of Ave Maria with Schubert's music, and succeeded quite nicely, with only minor alterations.
Ave Maria is one of the most recognizable songs in the English language; the text we often hear is in German - a translation from the original by Adam Storck, a contemporary of Schubert's. Countless recording artists have recorded Ave Maria, including Luciano Pavarotti, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, and Bono, who sang a duet with Pavarotti of this classic.
Ave Maria Violin solo by Schubert (long) is 4:15 in length; our shorter version is 2:25. Choose the timing that best fits your wedding ceremony and personal preference.
Due to doctrinal differences, few protestants will use Ave Maria in weddings, funerals, or other services of the church. It seems a shame that such a historically significant and beautiful song is never used in so many faith traditions...it might be worth noting that alternate lyrics have been composed that fit the music fairly well and align more closely with a different theological bent, though as an instrumental version, that would not practically affect it's use unless those lyrics were acknowledged or printed in the notes of a program or service.

Ave Maria Violin Schubert (long)
From Wikipedia, here is the original translation by Storck that Schubert used:
Ave Maria! Jungfrau mild,
Erhöre einer Jungfrau Flehen,
Aus diesem Felsen starr und wild
Soll mein Gebet zu dir hinwehen.
Wir schlafen sicher bis zum Morgen,
Ob Menschen noch so grausam sind.
O Jungfrau, sieh der Jungfrau Sorgen,
O Mutter, hör ein bittend Kind!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! Unbefleckt!
Wenn wir auf diesen Fels hinsinken
Zum Schlaf, und uns dein Schutz bedeckt
Wird weich der harte Fels uns dünken.
Du lächelst, Rosendüfte wehen
In dieser dumpfen Felsenkluft,
O Mutter, höre Kindes Flehen,
O Jungfrau, eine Jungfrau ruft!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! Reine Magd!
Der Erde und der Luft Dämonen,
Von deines Auges Huld verjagt,
Sie können hier nicht bei uns wohnen,
Wir woll'n uns still dem Schicksal beugen,
Da uns dein heil'ger Trost anweht;
Der Jungfrau wolle hold dich neigen,
Dem Kind, das für den Vater fleht.
Ave Maria!
One version commonly heard today:
Ave Maria
Vergin del ciel
Sovrana di grazie e madre pia
Accogli ognor la fervente preghiera
Non negar
A questo smarrito mio amor
Tregua nel suo dolor!
Sperduta l'alma mia ricorre a te
E piena di speme si prostra ai tuoi piè
T'invoca e attende la vera pace
che solo tu puoi donar
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave Ave Dominus
Dominus tecum,
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus
et benedictus fructus ventris
ventris tui, Iesus.
Ave Maria.
