    JESU JOY OF MANS DESIRING (BACH) is a very popular wedding processional or prelude piece. This arrangement features strings and woodwinds, along with classical guitar and harpsichord. Solo woodwinds are provided by Tobin Wingard, and include flute and Irish whistle. Originally written for choir and orchestra, Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring is here performed by small orchestra (with some solo violin adding to the melody at times) & additional instruments. The Jesu is probably J.S. Bach's most famous wedding creation. The constant running eighth notes in this piece are contrasted against, the long, relaxed tones of the melody which appear from time to time in various instruments, and make this piece both interesting and reassuring as a wedding choice; in the past it was especially popular as a processional for bridesmaids and groomsmen, although some churches have used it during the body of the ceremony. ... more

Jesu Joy Of Mans Desiring (Bach) is a fairly traditional arrangement of this most well known Bach composition, with the exception of some creative classical guitar additions.

Jesu Joy Of Mans Desiring (Bach) Lyrics by Robert Bridges (not a translation of the original German)

Jesu, joy of man's desiring,
Holy wisdom, love most bright;
Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light.
Word of God, our flesh that fashioned,
With the fire of life impassioned,
Striving still to truth unknown,
Soaring, dying round Thy throne.
Through the way where hope is guiding,
Hark, what peaceful music rings;
Where the flock, in Thee confiding,
Drink of joy from deathless springs.
Theirs is beauty's fairest pleasure;
Theirs is wisdom's holiest treasure.
Thou dost ever lead Thine own
In the love of joys unknown
