    O PERFECT LOVE was written for a wedding ceremony in London in 1883. It rose to much greater popularity starting in the 1970's, and is now a staple in many hymnals. "O Perfect Love" is the first line of the hymn and a reference to God himself and his perfect love, and implores Him to grant to those who are to be wed eternal love, charity, steadfast faith, endurance, peace, and joy.

O Perfect Love is most often heard as a vocal piece performed by choirs - if you favor choral music, this is a beautiful composition in the Anglican tradition. The site arranger has never heard this song arranged other than for choir.

O perfect Love, all human thought transcending,
Lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne,
That theirs may be the love that knows no ending,
Whom Thou forevermore dost join in one.

O perfect Life, be Thou their full assurance
Of tender charity and steadfast faith,
Of patient hope, and quiet, brave endurance,
With childlike trust that fears nor pain nor death.

Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow;
Grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife,
And to life's day the glorious unknown morrow
That dawns upon eternal love and life.
