Pachelbel Canon in D Major is arranged for small orchestra (strings, solo violin, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, classical guitar). Pachelbel's Canon is his most famous composition, and like other canons, lay undiscovered long after he had composed it, until the 20th century, and eventually became hugely popular.
The D Major Canon may have been originally composed for the wedding of Johann Christoph Bach; Pachelbel, along with other Bach family members, provided the music for the occasion. First recorded in 1940, it has become a standard wedding prelude and processional song, and is included as well on dozens of classical recordings of every solo instrument and ensemble imaginable, and some you haven't imagined.
The original scoring was quite simple - three violins and a basso continuo. Our arrangement includes strings, as well as nylon string (classical) guitar and some sparse woodwind - mostly oboe and flute, with a touch of bassoon.
